What to Watch This Weekend: 7 Best New Movies and Shows to Stream Now.

Here’s what to watch this weekend and where to watch the top seven best movies and shows the weekend of Aug.

1:Chief of War

Jason Momoa has side projects just like the rest of us, only his involve epic scope and big budgets. He’s now producing and starring in an Apple TV+ series about how Hawaii came under colonial rule in the late 1700s and how the islands were united under one banner before that happened.

Momoa, who grew up on the fringes of the Hawaiian Islands, plays the chief determined to seal the islands under one flag before the ships with cannons and contracts arrive. He’s backed by a largely Polynesian cast who speak the languages, sing the chants, and carry the kanaka spirit in every line.

Catch Chief of War on Apple TV+.

2:My Oxford Year

The romance I shopped for in high school is now streaming on Netflix, starring Sofia Carson and Corey Mylchreest, both of whom Netflix has already planted in its superhero youthquake. They’re now playing Anna and Jamie, the star-crossed pair featured in a 2018 novel that I forgot to read.

Anna is the talented American who has pictured walking down the cobblestones of Oxford ever since she saw that one movie. Jamie is the strikingly taciturn professor whom every student is warned to avoid. Anna is warned. Anna, of course, ignores the warning.

My Oxford Year is now on Netflix.

3:The Naked Gun

Liam Neeson has built an empire playing serious men with guns, but I guess someone handed him a silly script and an inflatable prop and now he’s running through The Naked Gun in nothing but a tutu and a pair of bicycle shorts. When the credits roll I’ll need to re-evaluate him.

A fresh take on the 1988 cult classic (same title), Liam Neeson is Frank, determined to honor his goofy cop dad by cutting his own course through the law—and yes, that still means brandishing his service piece to slip past the bathrooms.

The Naked Gun lands in theaters August 1.

4:Project Runway, Season 21

Make it work! Tim Gunn’s ever-optimistic mantra rings out again as the runway saga revs after a two-year breather, fresh judges, new host, and a streaming home.

Heidi Klum is back in the MEGA-chairs, though Tim won’t be at her side after sixteen seasons. Christian Siriano, fresh off his own win, hosts again, and Nina Garcia stays put on the judge’s panel.

Celebrity stylist Law Roach joins the group, and his critiques are already sharp enough to cut sequins.

Catch the first two episodes on Hulu and Disney+, with a new drop every Thursday at 9 p.m. ET on Freeform.

5:Conversations with a Killer: The Son of Sam Tapes

Netflix digs deeper into the mind of David Berkowitz in the latest iteration of its Conversations with a Killer series. Berkowitz, now serving a six-decade sentence, reigned terror over New York City from the summer of ’76 to the summer of ’77, executing young couples who lingered in parked cars, most of the victims sharing one common look: defined cheeks, short brown hair.

The police received taunting letters, signed by the now-infamous Son of Sam, which revealed how the killer watched for simple routines. His downfall came after a parked car—his own—was traced to a shooting site, sealing the case. Stream Conversations with a Killer:

The Son of Sam Tapes only on Netflix.

6:The Yogurt Shop Murders

32 years later, the case still reverberates. In the early dawn of Dec. 6, 1991, four teenage girls arrived for a late-night treat at the I Can’t Believe It’s Yogurt! outlet in Austin, Texas.

Hours later, a blaze swept through the store, revealing the aftermath: all four girls, lifeless, each body hidden from the view of the day.

Despite years of investigation, a suspect has never stood trial. The chronicles of that night, and the enduring search for justice, take center stage in HBO’s new docuseries, The Yogurt Shop Murders. Family members, detectives, and cold-case experts retrace every minute.

Set a reminder: you can watch Sunday, Aug. 3 at 10 p.m. Eastern on HBO and HBO Max.

7:Perfect Match season 3

If you’ve somehow managed to avoid dating-show burnout (though you’re probably at the breaking point now), Netflix has queued up yet another title for you: Perfect Match returns for a third season.

This time, the franchise is shifting gears. Rather than sticking strictly to its roster of Netflix-originated dating alums, the season also pulls in familiar faces from Bachelor Nation, Love Island, and a few other beloved series. So the cast is basically a Multiverse of reality dating icons.

You can stream the first six episodes of Perfect Match season 3 right now on Netflix.
