He reportedly died in his Harlem apartment, with officials yet to release the exact time of passing. His mother, Martha Brown, confirmed to TMZ that a family member found his body there after a work colleague contacted relatives when DJ Brown failed to report for a scheduled shift.

At this time, there is no available information detailing the reason for his passing or the situations that preceded it.

Barawine Harlem—a wine bar in N.Y.C. where Omen Sidney Brown worked for years—shared a heartfelt Instagram post after word got out about his passing. “We are shocked and deeply saddened,” the bar’s statement began. “Omen was a member of our team for more than a decade, and his unique talent colored every glass and every note poured here.” The post continued, “There are not enough words. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, with his friends, and with everyone who knew and loved him.”

Omen Brown, a Harlem native, noise in the music game back in the 1990s and 2000s after lending his ear to the same heartbeat that drove hits for artists like Mýa and Fabolous, as well as multiple gems for the Roc-A-Fella family, all Hip Hip reports. His big break snapped in 2006 when he handed Ludacris that rolling track “Tell It Like It Is.” The song landed on Release Therapy, the album that scored Omen a 2007 Grammy for Best Rap Album, the same story says.

His magic didn’t stop there. Omen was in the still spotlight when he co-produced Drake’s “Shut It Down,” a track from the 2010 debut album Thank Me Later. Page after page of credits got packed when Omen was called to co-write and co-produce Beyoncé’s “Mine,” that high-profile song that features Drake on the star’s self-titled drop in 2013.
