“Rest in peace, Grandpa.🐎,” Redford’s grandson Conor Schlosser wrote on Instagram, sharing a collection of sweet snapshots.
In the wake of the Oscar-winner’s passing, the actor’s three grandkids chose to remember him first and foremost as the devoted family man they knew. Redford passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 16, at age 89. Hours later, Conor Schlosser posted a poignant set of photos that capture their quiet, everyday adventures.

Childhood images show young Conor riding a horse side-by-side with Grandpa Redford, then on a golf course sharing a laugh during a relaxed swing. Later shots flash to the recent past with Conor, 33, sitting in a restaurant, sharing a meal, arm still around Grandpa’s shoulders, both of them still smiling. These glimpses seem to say it all.

“He was larger than life to everyone, yet to us, he was just Grandpa,” Conor, the youngest grandchild of Robert Redford, shared on his Instagram post. His caption was short but heartfelt: “Rest in peace, Grandpa.” He followed it by inviting others to message him with favorite stories so he can gather as many memories as possible. It’s a small way to keep the larger-than-life legend close as family.
Cousin Lena, daughter of the late James Redford, also paid her respects online, posting a single heart emoji along with old photos of her and Redford. In one, the two ride horses as if in a fairy-tale movie; others show them both on bustling Hollywood sets, or hugging in a cheerful snapshot that also features her dad. They capture the magic of childhood spent with a real-life movie hero who, behind the cameras, was just family.
Sharing a smiling throwback of her and Grandpa in matching Kangol beanies, Lena Redford captioned her Instagram Story, “Taught me everything… Had everyone in Kangol.” The warmth of Grandpa’s hug and that bright cap brought her followers right into that sunny childhood moment.

Beside a second photo of her dad, Robert, and brother James riding horses, Lena added, “I like to think they’re on the best horses in heaven.” It’s a peaceful, movie-scene way to picture the reunion, with both horses and smiles still shining.
Robert’s beloved sons have both passed. James fought bile-duct cancer, leaving this world in 2020, at 58. Little Scott had a short stay on the earth in 1959, taken by sudden infant death syndrome just after birth. Robert leaves behind his soulmate, artist Sibylle, their lovely daughters Shauna and Amy, and a whole troop of seven grandchildren who will keep telling his stories with a smile.
