Billy Joel is relishing some altogether private family days with his two daughters, Della Rose and Remy Anne, and his wife, Alexis Roderick. With characteristic generosity, he shared a slice of their tropical vacation with his million Instagram followers.
This was no ordinary island retreat; the sun-soaked escape celebrated Della’s tenth birthday. She marked the milestone by flying off to wide white beaches, brilliant blue water, and a population of genial island pigs.
The “Vienna” songwriter uploaded a photo of the foursome leaning together on a dark-lacquered picnic table, all of them grinning broadly. Joel, in a navy tee and matching swim shorts, added a long silver chain, black sunglasses, and a cap worn backwards on his head.
One daughter wore a rainbow-hued swim top, and the other had on a simple white tee. Both girls let their hair breathe in the sea breeze, the strands curling into gentle waves. Roderick, in a rose-hued caftan and a wide-brim sunhat, completed the scene while a troop of island pigs wandered over to greet them, the postcard-perfect finale.
“Happy birthday to our shining light, Della Rose, 10 today!🌹” Joel wrote, his words bright with pride. “Your kindness, tenderness for others, and boundless love color everything around you. You view the world with an open heart.

The second slide is a grainy, joyous flash: little Della, a bright orange starfish dress swirling, calling for her dad. Waves of golden hair escape her half-up, half-down style, bouncing with each footsteps as the family camera captures the sweet, determined search.
Joel remains unapologetically a girl-dad. He dotes on Della and her little sister Remy, 8, while also celebrating 39-year-old Alexa Ray, the daughter he shares with his former wife, Christie Brinkley.
In a July interview with People, Joel reflected candidly on his greatest source of fulfillment. “I didn’t have a dad, so being a dad myself was something I felt I had to do right,” he explained. “I love every one of my daughters.
Poetic justice being I ended up with all daughters, and I’m savoring every moment. This is precisely what I had hoped for all my life, and now it’s my present.”
