Demi Lovato Was ‘So Shocked’ When Jutes Learned Guitar to Propose.
More than a year after Demi Lovato tied the knot with Jordan “Jutes” Lutes, the singer is still amazed by the way the proposal unfolded. During a recent chat with SiriusXM, Demi, now 33, revealed the clever and sweet labor of love behind Jutes’ planned yes-or-no moment.
Surprising even herself, Demi heard Jutes, 34, strumming the guitar for the first time the night he asked her to marry him on December 16, 2022. “He learned to play the song he wrote,” she recalled. “It was so beautiful. He basically captured our whole journey in music. There were Easter eggs in every line.” Her eyes watered as she added, “He was so thoughtful. He really is the best.”
Still riding the joy of the proposal, Demi also mentioned she’s now signed on to executive produce Camp Rock 3. Fans of the former Disney star aren’t the only ones smiling—Demi, on the other hand, was only half shocked; Jutes had hinted he wouldn’t be proposing around the December holidays, which made the song-of-a-lifetime reveal almost sneakily perfect.

“I remember when he mentioned the budget and planning for the holiday shopping, and he said he didn’t want a green ring box sitting under the tree hinting at the proposal,” Lovato recalled. “I said, ‘Fine, let’s table it for January.’ But a few months later he knelt down and I totally blanked.”
“I pride myself on reading the room, yet here I was,” she laughed. “I was literally shaking, surprised like it was first date butterflies.”
Just a couple weeks later, during a November convo on The Viall Files, Jutes broke down how he spent only “seven sunsets, six hotels, and a caffeine crash” crafting the ukulele chords. “I kept to the built-in rolex timer, hit record once for me and bumped me for the duo trigger.” They both smiled when Viall gave him a congratulatory round of applause.

“Yeah, I cannot play guitar at all, so practicing the part right before I ask ‘Will you marry me?’ was a total nightmare,” the guy from “Sleepyhead” cracked on that podcast. “I’d flub it three times out of four, so I figured I’d just cross my fingers and hope I got lucky that night.”
“Honestly, I nearly lost it a couple of times,” he confessed. “That part really got me.”
Big moment came together when Jutes told his fiancée’s crew to “set up some props and keep her busy” right before he went on stage. All he wanted was a surprise that knocked her completely off balance. Once he was on stage, Jutes felt “100 percent sure” the answer would be yes.
“I knew she wasn’t looking for it, and that’s why I did it. It was the perfect moment to surprise her,” he explained. “We’d talked a little about getting hitched, sure, but I wanted to keep the actual question a total sneak attack.”
