So You Think You Can Dance Season 4 winner Joshua Allen has passed away at 36.

According to family member, Allen passed away on Tuesday, but there has not been any information surrounding the cause of Allen’s death, only that the family is requesting privacy at this time regarding Allen’s passing. Allen was 36. This was confirmed by a family member who spoke to the news organization, TMZ, concerning this unfortunate tragedy. The family member has also confirmed the death occurred on Tuesday.

A friend of Allen’s and dance colleague, Emmanuel Hurd, was also shocked by this incident and has stated, “the Allen he knew was a very honest, real person,” who also “wasn’t the type to always follow the blueprints, but that’s why he won.” Hurd was a fan of Allen’s and his vision and he stated that he was impressed by the freedom, fluidity, and rawness of Allen’s work in particular.

Back on July 21 is when Allen’s final Instagram post came out and on that post he spoke heavily on the late Malcolm-Jamal Warner. The actor, unfortunately, lost his life at the age of 54, while on he was on family vacation in Costa Rica and Allen was also a victim to this death as he was relating the story to Malcolm.

Allen captioned the post with, “fly high as i king 🕊️💔 and as well hashtagged gonetoosoon.”

In one of the many tributes shared about the life of Joshua Allen, Dance Instructor and Buddy Emmanuel Hurd in particular noted, “Can’t wrap my head around this… Josh my brotha, there are no words. You were always the life of the party. class, one of the realest people I ever met. Saved. You always made things right a a stack of changed. A set deck. Hurd is quoted saying on instagram.

In the year of 2008, Joshua Allen was the winner of the Fox reality competition titled Dance Showdown. The runner up, Stephen “tWitch” Boss, went on to DJ The Ellen Show. He died in December 2022 because of age 40.

In the time Allen spent on Dance Showdown, he and Stephen shared a close relationship, and both were extremely thrilled for one another,” stated Allen referring to Boss in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “Among the many people there, we were the two who were the closest,” he said.

Allen went on to claim over the years and in many interviews, he had some previous dancing experience before appearing on the reality show.

“I took a few modern dance classes, ballet classes, because I felt that to be a better dancer I would have to take different classes, and, you know, expand my horizons in the art of dance,” Allen explained. I wanted to knew more than what I was supposed to perform. Dallas was [early in the auditions]. I took as many classes as I could after I made it to Vegas, and there were months before we actually went.”

“I really wasn’t that technically trained,” Allen continued. “I would just try to take classes in the summer, and when it was school time I would take class, run track, play football. I would always just train in the summer. So it was never hard training.”

In 2010, Allen portrays as an actor in the movie ‘Step Up 3D’ and in ‘Footloose’ the year after. He also made an appearance in an episode of ‘American Horror Story’ in 2011.
