Justin Trudeau Travels in Italy with Ella-Grace, Touring Rome, Florence, and Lake Como.
This summer, Justin Trudeau traded his suit for sandals and jet-setted to Italy with his daughter Ella-Grace. Their travels took them to Rome, Siena, Florence, and the famous Lake Como, where they made memories as a tight-knit twosome.
Instagram snaps and stories show the pair wandering the cobbled streets of Rome, standing beneath the arches of the Colosseum and marvelling at St. Peter’s in the Vatican. They later strolled Siena’s honey-coloured lanes and stood in awe of the paintings at Florence’s Uffizi Gallery.
Lake Como, known for its crystal-clear water and pastel-coloured villages, was the capstone of the trip. They hopped on a little vintage boat, glided past the scenery, and stopped for pasta, pizza, and more gelato than a kid can handle.
This trip marked the third time this year that Trudeau has whisked one of his children off for a solo adventure. He started the idea in early 2025, first with his oldest, Xavier, then with his youngest, Hadrien. Each journey is designed for “quality, uninterrupted time” while the world of politics sits on mute.
Former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Italian family getaway arrives during a year that has tested him both as a leader and a dad. He has often talked lately about juggling the demands of the office and fatherhood, especially after his separation from Sophie Grégoire Trudeau last year.
Although his calendar is still crowded with meetings, rallies and world summits, trips like this one show he is still trying to show up for his kids. Images of the getaway have zipped around social media, and followers love seeing the PM in shorts, sneakers and sun glasses, a long way from the stiff meetings of Parliament Hill.
With summer about to turn to fall, Trudeau is ready to fly back to Ottawa for the next session. But for 15-year-old Ella-Grace, this Italian escape will probably glow in her memory long after the leaves change.
