Phoebe Tonkin Can Finally “Enjoy” Married Life After Having to Film in Australia “Straight After” Wedding.
Phoebe Tonkin is finally experiencing newlywed bliss. The Originals star, 36, married art advisor and curator Bernard Lagrange in New York City on May 10. While chatting with PEOPLE at the Through Her Lens: The Tribeca Chanel Women’s Filmmaker Program Luncheon in New York City on Tuesday, Sept. 16, Tonkin shared that married life is “the best” — now that she’s actually able to spend time with her new husband.

“It’s the best,” Tonkin says. “I went and filmed a series in Australia straight after I got married, so it’s nice to be back and actually enjoying married life.”
According to a post on Tonkin’s Instagram page, this June she was filming in Brisbane alongside Brenton Thwaites for the Australian romance drama-comedy Two Years Later. The eight-part series follows thirty-somethings Ryan and Emily’s unexpected relationship across eight dates and will launch exclusively on Paramount Plus in 2026, according to Vanity Fair.
In May, Phoebe Tonkin exchanged vows with Lagrange within the tranquil confines of New York’s All Souls Church, a non-denominational venue, followed by a lavish reception at Eleven Madison Park, where the extravagant swan-shaped cakes drew widespread admiration, reports Vogue.
Celebrity attendees included Margot Robbie, Samara Weaving, Annabelle Wallis, Eiza González, and Teresa Palmer, alongside Tonkin’s former co-stars from The Vampire Diaries, Nina Dobrev and Claire Holt, who were centralized on the guest list.

Roughly ten days later, Dobrev praised the ceremony in a devoted Instagram tribute, appending photographs of her companion, the retired Olympic snowboarder Shaun White, who had been her then-fiancé. The couple announced their separation on September 11, just shy of a year post-engagement.

“Still not over this,” Dobrev reflected on May 22, posting: “A perfect weekend celebrating Phoebe & Bernie 🤍🤍🤍 Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Lagrange, forever begins now…,” her sentiment testifying to the depth of the weekend’s emotional resonance.
Three weeks thereafter Tonkin discreetly signalled the engagement by sharing candids from a summer then-retreat, her left hand displaying the diamond circlet, captioned, “Film back from the summer of love 🎞️,” a playful nod to the enchanting months preceding the wedding.
On October 29, 2024, the H2O: Just Add Water alumni graced the crimson walkway at the WWD Honors gala in Manhattan, adorned in an elegant, Grecian-style gown of deep crimson and accentuated by the stunning brilliance of her signature ring.
