Who Was John Crawley, Known as ‘KingBeardX’?
Comedian John Crawley, the face behind the TikTok account ‘KingBeardX,’ was loved for his fluffy beard and sidesplitting reactions to food videos. He had more than 2.5 million fans on TikTok alone.
John Crawley passed away on Monday, August 18, at 47. His real-life charm and humorous commentary made him a hit on TikTok and Instagram, amassing 3.5 million followers across both platforms. Fans waited for his distinctive laugh and squinty, positive responses to videos of people enjoying meals.
Anthony Caruso, Crawley’s friend and podcast co-host, launched a GoFundMe page after Crawley was admitted to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo about two weeks before his death. The page explained that Crawley arrived gasping for air, was moved to the ICU, and that his family was facing heavy medical bills because he didn’t have insurance.
On August 19, Caruso updated the page to share the heartbreaking news that Crawley had died the day before.
“Thanks to everyone who’s helped with the fundraiser so far,” Caruso posted. “His mom told me to let you know she’s so grateful. We’ll keep the fundraiser alive to cover the funeral costs and anything that can help John’s mom.”
On the Glenfield Funeral Home site where Crawley’s obituary is posted, dozens of friends, family, and fans have left memories that celebrate the joy he spread—both in the real world and through screens.
“I’m so heartbroken. He was the first TikToker I ever really loved. I hope he’s resting and eating cinnamon rolls in heaven or wherever he is. Big hugs, giant!” one fan wrote.
“His videos chased away the clouds on so many of my hardest days. I’m praying for his family and everyone who loved him. He’ll be missed by so many. Love from Kentucky,” someone else shared.
Another wrote, “I’m praying for his family, his friends, and every person he ever reached through social media. I’m with you all in spirit.”
