Warwick Davis Shocks Fans: Returning as Professor Flitwick in New Harry Potter TV Series

Warwick Davis to reprise role in Harry Potter TV series!

Warwick Davis will once again step into the robes of Professor Filius Flitwick for the upcoming HBO Max Harry Potter television series, the network has officially announced.

The beloved actor first enchanted audiences as the Charms master throughout the blockbuster film saga, adapted from J.K. Rowling’s beloved novels. Davis is thus the premiere talent from the original film series to bring a character back to the same universe for a new long-form adaptation.

He interchanged the same petite frame in the movies for a second wizard during a brief but memorable cameo as Griphook, the goblin banker at Gringotts. Warwick Davis Griphook gave the films an additional layer of magical authenticity, yet the character will now be portrayed by Leigh Gill, who captured attention in the Joker franchise as Gary Puddles.

The announcement of Warwick Davis, joined quickly by a flurry of supporting actors, arrived during the annual Back to Hogwarts gathering. Each 1 September, Potter fans commemorate the first day of classes by bleeding fans into real-world reimaginings of Platform 9¾ celebrations, further firming the saga’s enduring cultural magic.

Joining the expanding cast of the upcoming series are Elijah Oshin as Dean Thomas, rounding out the dark-art-promptive trio alongside Finn Stephens and William Nash, who take on the roles of Draco Malfoy’s henchmen, Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle.

The makers have mapped a ten-year plan to craft the complete narrative arc, with the opening season on the brink of premiering in 2027.

Filming began this past summer; early set images showcased 11-year-old Dominic McLaughlin in full Potter regalia. It had earlier been confirmed that Alastair Stout would embody Ron Weasley while Arabella Stanton would step into Hermione Granger’s shoes.

Professor Pomona Sprout is to be portrayed by Sirine Saba; Richard Durden will bring to life the spectrally petulant Professor Cuthbert Binns; and the ever-capable Madam Pomfrey will be embodied by Brid Brennan.

Their announcements follow those of bigger marquee names, like John Lithgow in the role of Dumbledore, Nick Frost as the beloved half-giant Hagrid, Janet McTeer as the tenacious Minerva McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu as the enigmatic Severus Snape.

A familiar arena will house the episodes, with production once again returning to Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in Hertfordshire, the same lot where the eight original Harry Potter films were crafted.

HBO reaffirmed its commitment that this project will remain “a faithful adaptation of the iconic books.”

The TV adaptation can finally stretch out the story and give each character’s arc the room to breathe that the movies just couldn’t afford.
